Public School NYC SS 2015 Inspired By The Concrete Jungle
Public School NYC is a design house founded in 2008 by Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne. Both were born and raised in New York City. The restless energy and diversity of the Big Apple are just two of the many influences that can be found in Public School’s clothing. The designing duo stays true to their roots by designing and manufacturing all their pieces in New York City. They believe that remaining local will allow them to keep producing the finest quality clothing.
Chow and Osborne debuted their Spring ’15 collection in September. The ready-to-wear collection was described as a controlled stream of increasing disorder due to the ever-changing patterns and colors seen on the runway. The show began with classic black and white pieces but then dramatically shifted to looks featuring geometric prints, marbled patterns, and stripes in numerous colors. Fabrics like silk, mesh, and knit were also heavily used in this season’s pieces.
The menswear and womenswear complemented each other well. Women’s apparel had a feminine, chic look that could be considered strangely simple for Spring. Chow and Osborne designed the female garments to be more structured and not as sporty as the menswear collection. The menswear pieces featured sharply cut tees, loose-fitting shorts, and luxe bombers, According to Dao-Yi Chow, the message people should take away from the Spring runway show is that,“It’s all about finding order out of chaos.” This message was very present in the collection.
Since 2008, Public School has proven to be one of fashion’s hottest upcoming labels. They have been awarded with the CFDA Swarovski Award for Menswear, CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Award, and have most recently been named creative director of Donna Karan’s famous DKNY brand. Osborne and Chow have also collaborated with the famous sneaker brand, Air Jordan, several times throughout the year.
You can buy the Public School Collection at major department stores and specialty boutiques including Barney’s New York, Harvey Nichols, Isetan, MaxField, and Louis Boston.
